Financial Aid programs at the University of Great Falls are designed to assist students in paying for their expenses associated with earning a college degree. Financial Aid is available to help pay for tuition, fees, books, supplies, and the student’s living expenses while enrolled. Assistance may be provided through some combination of scholarships, grants, work opportunities, and loans. The financial aid year begins with the fall semester, followed by spring and summer semesters.

Most UGF students receive some type of financial aid to assist in paying their costs of education. Financial Aid is available for full and half-time students. Assistance from state and Federal programs is limited to U.S. citizens and eligible non-citizens.

Students must re-apply for federal aid each year.

We strive to keep costs and additional fees minimized, yet they are subject to change in response to needs of students.
Approximately 80% of full-time, degree-seeking University of Great Falls students receive a financial aid package.
Enrolled UGF students who are planning on attending next year may apply for gift scholarships, which will be awarded for Fall Semester 2008 and Spring Semester 2009. These awards are for one year only and are not renewable. The applicant must demonstrate academic and leadership potential.
Interested individuals should complete the enclosed Scholarship Application cover sheet and attach a working copy of their college transcript, a resume, and a personal statement. To receive priority consideration, applications must be received by February 29, 2008 in the Financial Aid Office, ATTN: Financial Aid Director, University of Great Falls, 1301 20th Street South, Great Falls, MT 59405.

Personal, educational, and career goals

Personal statements should not exceed two typed, double spaced pages.
By submitting a scholarship application you are authorizing the release of information contained on the application as well as other appropriate information on file in the Offices of Financial Aid, Admissions, and Records for the purpose of determining eligibility for a scholarship administered by the University of Great Falls. In addition, you authorize the release of your name, major, and class for publicity purposes.
All scholarship recipients are required to write a thank you letter to the donor and provide a copy of it to the Financial Aid Office before the scholarship funds are disbursed to your account.

We encourage students to pursue private scholarships whenever possible. Contact high school guidance counselors and/or our Career Services Office here at the University of Great Falls for information regarding local scholarship opportunities. Researching scholarship and grant directories at a library or on the internet may also prove worthwhile. In addition, various scholarships exist through service organizations such as Knights of Columbus, Rotary Club, Elks Club, Lions Club, and Kiwanis Club. Other possible sponsors include students or parents employers, trade associations, banks, corporations, schools, school districts, and churches.
A grant is money that does not have to be repaid. It is awarded as a means of partially meeting a students demonstrated need. If federal, state, and institutional guidelines permit, each eligible student will be awarded grant funds. All students meeting eligibility requirements are entitled to the Federal Pell Grant. All other grants are offered on a first-come, first-serve basis. Students who are non-degree seeking or are seeking teacher certification after graduation are ineligible for grant funds.
Family Plan Benefits: This program assists families who have the burden of expense for two or more full-time students enrolled concurrently at the University of Great Falls. The university offers a $495.00 per semester discount to each attending family member of a qualifying household. A graduate student does not receive the family plan discount. However, a graduate student can serve to qualify an undergraduate family member for the discount. A family group is defined as father, mother, son, daughter, brother, sister, husband, or wife. This waiver is restricted to undergraduate degree seeking students.

Veterans' Benefits |
A large group of veterans, and in some cases their dependents, are eligible to receive educational benefits. Generally, an application for benefits must be submitted and determination made by the Veterans Administration regarding benefits. Programs are available for which tuition and fees are paid, as well as a monthly stipend. If the veteran or dependent is having difficulty with a course, tutorial assistance may be provided.
(GIBill ) The University is approved for veterans under PL 358, and for students under the War Orphans Assistance Act, PL 634, and the Vocational Rehabilitation Bill, PL 894, and PL 815. Inquires about the educational benefits for veterans attending the University should be addressed to the Financial Aid Office. Veterans must inform the Financial Aid Office if they wish to be “certified” for VA benefits (including Chapter 1606 Reserve/Guard and Chapter 1607 REAP) before the beginning of the term; they must also inform the Financial Aid Office if they drop or add any credits during the term.
