Financial Aid

The basic financial aid premise of the University of Great Falls is that the main responsibility for meeting college expenses lies with the student and the student’s family. Assistance from University of Great Falls is intended to help students finance their educations when family and personal resources are not adequate to meet the total educational costs. Financial Aid consists of scholarships and grants (free assistance), loans (which must be repaid), and part-time employment. The university makes every effort within its means to help students with limited financial resources secure the needed funds.

The University of Great Falls is fully committed to policies of nondiscrimination and equal opportunity, and vigorously pursues affirmative action in all programs, activities, and employment with regard to race, color, national origin, sex, religion, age and status of disability.

The Title IV institution code for the University of Great Falls is 002527.

Scholarships and Grants

Continuing Student Gift Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic criteria and/or any combination of academics, financial need, campus/community activities, leadership positions and work experience. Scholarships are designed to reward, encourage, and assist students in pursing academic excellence and leadership roles. Unless accompanied by specific instructions from the donor, it is the policy of the Financial Aid Office to divide all scholarships into equal payments to be disbursed at the beginning of each semester.

We encourage students to pursue private scholarships whenever possible. Contact high school guidance counselors and/or our Career Services Office here at the University of Great Falls for information regarding local scholarship opportunities. Researching scholarship and grant directories at a library or on the internet may also prove worthwhile. In addition, various scholarships exist through service organizations such as Knights of Columbus, Rotary Club, Elks Club, Lions Club, and Kiwanis Club. Other possible sponsors include students’ or parents’ employers, trade associations, banks, corporations, schools, school districts, and churches.

A grant is money that does not have to be repaid. It is awarded as a means of partially meeting a student’s demonstrated need. If federal, state, and institutional guidelines permit, each eligible student will be awarded grant funds. All students meeting eligibility requirements are entitled to the Federal Pell Grant. All other grants are offered on a first-come, first-serve basis. Students who are non-degree seeking or are seeking teacher certification after graduation are ineligible for grant funds.

Veterans Benefits

A large group of veterans, and in some cases their dependents, are eligible to receive educational benefits. Generally, an application for benefits must be submitted and determination made by the Veterans Administration regarding benefits. Programs are available for which tuition and fees are paid, as well as a monthly stipend. If the veteran or dependent is having difficulty with a course, tutorial assistance may be provided.
