Clowns Play presented by the UGF Players
The University of Great Falls University Players will be presenting CLOWNS’ PLAY, a play for children, by Reginald F. Bain. The one act play will be presented at the UGF Theatre on Saturday December 9 at 10:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Admission is 50¢, with tickets available at the door.
“Show Today” and “Jack in the Beanstalk” read the two signs placed at the proscenium on the otherwise bare stage. Clown ushers escort the young audience members to their seats in anticipation of a performance of the age-old classic. But when it’s time for the show, and the group that was supposed to present the play has phoned to say that their van has broken down and they are not going to make it, the clowns gather on stage to decide what to do. Should they send the audience home? No one wants to do that, but what can they do? With the help of the audience members, they decide to act out the story themselves using their clown characters as the basis for their improvisation of Jack in the Beanstalk. Utilizing what they can find backstage, asking for help from the audience when they get stuck, and capitalizing on the unique talents of each of the clowns, they play out the story, discovering thereby the meaning of being clowns.
Members of the clown company are Amber Rock, Gabrielle E. Neiffer, Kaylie Young, Megan L. Hauer, Megan Varner, Pepper Root, Sara Wood, and Taylor Varner. The play is directed by Wayne M. Reynolds, and produced by special arrangement with the Dramatic Publishing Company.
