PAUL SADOWSKY: RECENT WORK UNIVERISITY OF GREAT FALLS LIBRARY EXHIBIT SPACE
JUNE 1- JULY 31ST, 2006

The UGF art dept is honored to exhibit the visionary drawings, etchings, and paintings of Paul Sadowsky, Great Falls artist and UGF student. Figurative and imaginative, responding to literary, intuitive and other sources, Sadowsky's surrealist imagery has uncommon truth and directness. Technical skill and conceptual curiosity flow with apparent ease from Sadowsky's hand to produce a profusion of superbly puzzling imagery. We sense Goya, Bosch, Picasso and Rembrandt joining forces in the 21st century. A traditional modernist foundation and an honest response to current events both personal and political combine to create provocative images that invite further inquiry. His notable draftsmanship serves astute observation to create a sense of light and spaciousness we are familiar with in the Great Plains, complete with signs of the industrial human presence and what often seems like playful experimentation in mammalian physiology. Skillfully rendered classical figures are paradoxically attenuated, reconfigured or conjoined resulting in disturbing or fantastic insights into a subconscious reality. The social and political issues the work draws from and the ramifications it implies are complex and engaging on a variety of levels. This is powerful stuff! Don't miss it!
