Lady Argos Upset Lewis-Clark State; defeats Oregon Tech SPOKANE, WA (Thursday, November 15, 2007) – The University of Great Falls volleyball team came into this year’s NAIA Region 1 Volleyball Tournament on Thursday afternoon taking on the Frontier Conference champions – Lewis-Clark State.
In last weekend’s Frontier Conference Tournament in Billings, MT, the Lady Argos fell in three games to the eventual Frontier Conference champions. On Thursday, these two teams met again at the regional tournament. It was a battle in the first match but LC State won 31-29 but UGF would go on to win three straight (30-24, 30-27, 30-23) and upset the defending the Lady Warriors of Lewis-Clark State in four games.
Senior Brittany Prater led the Lady Argos with 17 kills and 10 digs while Jocelyn Judd and Bri Goudey combined for 61 assists in the win. Frontier Conference Co-Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year, Anile Clemente of Lewis-Clark State, led the Lady Warriors with 16 kills.
************************************************ In UGF’s second match of the NAIA Regional Volleyball Tournament, the Lady Argos took on Oregon Institute of Technology and swept them in three straight 30-28, 30-26, 30-16. UGF is 2-0 at this tournament going into Friday’s match-up with Southern Oregon.
Once again, Brittany Prater led Great Falls in kills with 14 and Jocelyn Judd and Bri Goudey combined for 52 assists. Junior Kari Schiller contributed to the win with 14 digs. Michele Klaja had 11 kills while Krystie Vea picked up 14 digs in the loss for Oregon Tech who fall to 0-2 in the tournament. The College of Idaho and UGF are 2-0 after the first day followed by Westminster, Rocky and Lewis-Clark State at 1-1 and Montana Tech and Oregon are 0-2. If UGF defeats Southern Oregon this afternoon, they will play in the semifinals tonight at either 6:30PM or 9:00PM (MST). Even if the Lady Argos lose to Southern Oregon, there chances are pretty good that they will make the semifinals because one of the tiebreakers is losing the least amount of games.
