Rocky teams earn sweep; Lewis-Clark State gets second

BILLINGS, MT – The Rocky Mountain College men’s and women’s golf teams are off to a fast start this year as they swept the team titles at the Rocky Mountain College Invitational at the Peter Yegen Golf Course in Billings that finished up on Monday. Both teams earned their third straight tournament title of the season.

The Rocky men defeated runner-up Lewis-Clark State by 29 strokes and won by 30 strokes over third place Montana Tech. Meanwhile, the Rocky women won by 50 strokes ahead of the Lady Warriors of Lewis-Clark State, which finished in second.

On Sunday, the conditions on the Billings course were wet but the teams were able to complete 36 holes of the tournament. On Monday, they finished the final 18 holes.

The Argo men and women continued to battle with the rest of the teams so far as the 2007 Fall Frontier Golf Season comes to an end. Phil Marra finished in 15th place individually for the UGF Men with a final score of 221 and he was closely followed by Big Fork native Chris Richter, who finished 23rd with a score of 223. Overall, the UGF men’s golf team finished in sixth place. Meanwhile, the UGF women didn’t have enough players for a team score but Butte native Emily Pfeifer finished in 20th place for the women with a score of 281 followed by senior Jennifer Johnson who finished the Rocky Invitational with a score of 293.

The conference champion will be determined in April after the five conference tournaments are completed. The final two tournaments will be held at Lewis-Clark State in Lewiston, Idaho and Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah in the spring.
