Nevada standout to play volleyball for the Lady Argos this fall
GREAT FALLS, MT (Monday, May 19, 2008) — The University of Great Falls women’s volleyball team has announced the signing of an athlete from Nevada to a NAIA/Frontier Conference Letter of Intent for the upcoming 2008 season.
Tosha Nunes is a 6’1” outside hitter from Churchill County High School in Fallon, Nevada. She has been an impact player at her high school the past four years. In 2006 and 2007, Tosha was named to the 4A High Desert League Team and the All-Sierra Team. During her senior season, she was named as the “Athlete of the Year” at Churchill County High and she earned Honorable Mention as one of the top ten athletes of Northern Nevada.
In addition to playing volleyball, she played four years of basketball and was a member of her high school rodeo team for three years. Tosha graduated from high school with a 4.3 GPA.
“We are very excited to have a player like Tosha choose to come to the University of Great Falls. During her recruiting trip, we were very pleased at what a wonderful person and athlete she was and how incredibly well she meshed with the current players. Tosha is also very academically strong, which is an important characteristic of our athletes at UGF. As a 6’1 outside hitter, Tosha will make an immediate impact on our team and in our conference and will fit in well with our balanced offensive attack. Once again, we are very pleased to call Tosha an Argo!"," said UGF volleyball coach Arunas Duda.
“UGF was my first recruiting visit I went on. Right away I fit right in with the team. They are a wonderful group of girls, extremely kind and welcoming, who play a very high level of volleyball. I love how close the team is in and outside of practice including the coach, Arunas Duda. I enjoyed his coaching style and really look forward to learning and playing for him. I made other visits to D-1 schools that were offering me full rides but they could not compare to UGF as a school or program. At UGF, I was able to meet with the President and many teachers on the staff; they were all very friendly and seemed to really care for the students. I love the fact I will be a person and not just a number. I am very pleased with my decision to sign with UGF and look forward to moving in the fall," said Nunes.
