2008 UGF Women's Softball: Recent Recruit Signings
Jessica Bequette, Blue Mountain Community College, Hermiston, Oregon Ashley Densmore, Blue Mountain Community College, Vancouver, Washington Ashten Colvin, Helena Capital High School, Helena, Montana Lady Argo Softball adds three to the roster GREAT FALLS, Mont., July 15, 2008 — University of Great Falls women’s softball coach Gary Ehnes has announced the signing of Jessica Bequette from Hermiston, Oregon, Ashley Densmore from Vancouver, Washington and Ashten Colvin from Helena, Montana to NAIA/Frontier Conference Letters of Intent.
Jessica Bequette is a transfer from Blue Mountain Community College in Pendleton, Oregon where she played for her father, Tom for two years. She was an NWAC (Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges) All-League catcher, team captain during the 2007-2008 season, and a two-time Most Valuable Player for the Timberwolves.
The future Education major hopes to become a teacher or athletic administrator. "The reason I chose University of Great Falls was because of their welcoming staff and community. I like that everyone at the college is friendly and I fell in love with the town of Great Falls. I also like that the softball program is competitive but puts academics first," said Bequette.
"Jess brings a solid bat and her catching experience will be invaluable to our young team, noted coach Ehnes. Jessica had 13 pickoffs at first base last season and will give us solid play behind the plate.”
Ashley Densmore, also from Blue Mountain Community College, is also joining the Argo program. Ashley’s 62 mile-per-hour fastball helped her achieve an ERA of 1.65 last season as she was named her team’s Most Valuable Pitcher. The Vancouver, Washington native earned NWAC All-League honors as a pitcher and had 102 strikeouts in 118 innings. She plans to study Biology and has aspirations of going into the medical field.
“I chose the University of Great Falls after I had a tour of the school. I was so very impressed by the low number of students per class room and the very concerned and kind teachers. But the most exciting part for me from an athletes eye was the workout room, the gym, and all of the great equipment that I was shown. I can’t wait to get started at UGF,” said Densmore.
Coach Ehnes see tremendous potential for Densmore to make an immediate contribution on the pitching rubber. "Ashley is a seasoned pitcher with three good pitches and we hope to improve her speed to 64 miles per hour. We’re confident Ashley can help us achieve our team goals of earning a post season berth,” said Ehnes.
Ashten Colvin comes to the University of Great Falls from Helena Capital High School where she had a successful career in the outfield. The Honor Roll student will major in Education and plans to be a teacher.
"I am thrilled to become a member of the UGF community, I love the at home atmosphere and the willingness of my teammates to help me out in whatever way possible. The University of Great Falls is a great fit for me," said Colvin on her softball signing at the University of Great Falls.
"Ashten has good speed and a strong determination to be a collegiate softball player which makes her a great fit for the Argo softball team," stated Ehnes.
Micaela Kurth, Meridian High School, Meridian, Idaho Casey Olson, Freeman High School, Valleyford, Washington Pitcher and infielder set to join the Lady Argo softball team in the fall GREAT FALLS, MT (Monday, March 17, 2008) — The University of Great Falls women’s softball team is excited to announce the signing of two student-athletes from Meridian, Idaho and Valleyford, Washington to NAIA Letters of Intent.
Micaela Kurth will be joining the Lady Argos in the fall of 2008 from Meridian High School in Meridian, Idaho where she currently is a middle infielder. Kurth was a 5A First Team All-Conference shortstop. The three-sport standout has a 3.88 grade point average (GPA) and in her spare time, she volunteers at her church and enjoys being around friends and family. She plans to major in Business Administration when she enrolls at the University of Great Falls in the fall.
“Micaela and I share a friend named Erin Peterson who played for me a few years ago and from day one I thought Micaela would be a great addition to our team. She will add depth to our middle infield and excitement to our program,” said UGF women’s softball coach Gary Ehnes.
The Lady Argos have also added Casey Olson, a pitcher from Freeman High School in Valleyford, Washington (located just outside of Spokane, WA). During the 2006-2007 season, she helped her team advance to the “18U Western B National Championship” game. Casey has been very involved at her high school as she currently is the Vice-President of her class and helps with the production of her school’s website. The Washington pitcher plans to study Psychology at the University of Great Falls.
“Casey brings many talents to our program and one of her greatest attributes is her tireless work ethic. She will be a welcome addition to the pitching staff where she can show off her great change-up,” said Ehnes.
Last week (Thursday, March 13, 2008), the Lady Argos added first baseman Jenna Rosenberg, a transfer from Blue Mountain Community College in Pendleton, Oregon, who is from Othello, Washington and catcher Desiree Clarke from Whitefish High School in Whitefish, Montana.
Jenna Rosenberg, Blue Mountain Community College, Othello, Washington Desiree Clarke, Whitefish High School, Whitefish, Montana Lady Argo softball signs two student-athletes to their roster for the fall GREAT FALLS, MT (Thursday, March 13, 2008) — The University of Great Falls women’s softball team is excited to announce the signing of two student-athletes from Whitefish, MT and Othello, Washington to NAIA Letters of Intent.
Jenna Rosenberg is from Othello, Washington and is currently a sophomore playing first base at Blue Mountain Community College in Pendleton, Oregon. The community college transfer will join the Lady Argos in the fall of 2008 with a 3.5 grade point average. She plans to major in Criminal Justice where she would like to become a juvenile officer. Some of her interests include fishing and camping and her favorite food is spaghetti.
“Jenna brings a strong bat and swings from the left side and caught my eye immediately. While visiting the University of Great Falls during her tryouts, she demonstrated extremely soft hands which are a valuable asset in the infield,” said UGF women’s softball coach Gary Ehnes.
The Lady Argos have also added Desiree Clarke, a 5’5” catcher from Whitefish High School in Whitefish, Montana. In addition to playing catcher, she also plays other positions for the Lady Bulldogs. She will be majoring in chemistry and biology intended for the medical profession. Desiree also played basketball at Whitefish High School and was her team’s 2007 Defensive Player of the Year and she also received All-State Academic honors. “Desiree represents another fine example of Montana’s small town athletes who comes with multi-sport and multi-position experience while maintaining a very high academic standard,” said Ehnes.
