Seasons at UGF: 2nd Season as Men's Head Basketball Coach (3rd Overall)

Steve Silsby is in his second season as Head Men’s Basketball Coach and third year as Head Golf Coach with the University of Great Falls.  He comes here after three years at Scottsdale Community College.  He has also coaches two years at the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith, where the participated in the Junior College National Tournament both years. 

Silsby will be involved in all aspects of the program including on the floor coaching, recruiting and scouting.  Silsby is in his fourteenth year as a coach and has worked at every level, from high school to Division I. He spent 5 years from 1992 to 1997 working for the Arizona State Men's program, which went to the NCAA's Sweet Sixteen in 1995.

Seasons at UGF: 1st Season as Assistant Men's Basketball Coach

Michael Miranto joins the men's basketball staff at the University of Great Falls for the 2007-08 season. Miranto comes to UGF after three seasons as the Head Junior Varsity Coach and Assistant Varsity Coach at North Tonawanda High School in suburban Buffalo, NY.

In his three seasons on the staff at NTHS, Miranto aided in the development of several all-league players while overseeing the program's administrative duties as well. Miranto was also an assistant on the school's football coaching staff for two seasons and was a coach in the Niagara Hoops Salukis AAU Basketball Program for three years.

At UGF, Miranto will be involved in all aspects of the program including on-floor coaching, recruiting, scouting and coordinating film exchange. In addition, Miranto is also the Assistant Student Life Coordinator at UGF and is completing his Master's Degree in Education.

As a player at NTHS, Miranto was a four-year letterman and finished his career as the school's second all-time leading scorer while also holding school records for games played, three-point shots, assists and steals. He was twice named to the First Team All-Niagara Frontier League as well as a two-time All-Western New York selection and two-time Tonawanda News Area Player of the Year.

After high school, Miranto competed at the NCAA Division III level for Buffalo State College from 2001-2004 and was a key member of the Bengal's 2002-03 team which captured the State University of New York Athletic Conference Championship, advancing to the NCAA Division III National Tournament.

 

Ron Riley, Assistant Men's Basketball/Head Sub-Varsity Coach

Seasons at UGF: 1st Season as Assistant Men's Basketball Coach & Head Sub-Varsity Coach

Ron Riley joins the men's basketball staff at the University of Great Falls for the 2007-08 season and will serve as the Head Junior Varsity Coach as well as assisting the varsity team. Riley comes to UGF after an extensive playing career spanning several continents and various professional leagues.

A standout performer at Arizona State University from 1992-1996, Riley currently stands as the 4th all-time leading scorer at the Pac-10 affiliated school. A Pac-10 All-Freshman Team selection in 1993 and a 2nd Team All-Pac 10 selection in 1996, Riley was drafted in the Second Round (47th overall pick) of the 1996 NBA Draft by the Seattle Supersonics. After a brief stint in the NBA, Riley took his game overseas, spending time in Europe and Asia between 1997-2002. During his time overseas, Riley won an Austrian League Championship in 2000 and he was the Austrian Cup MVP in 2001. In addition to Austria, Ron played in professional leagues in Belgium, Puerto Rico and The Philippines. During his overseas off-season, he competed as a member of the CBA's Rockford Lightning from 1996-2002. In 2003, he played for the NBA Development League's Huntsville Flight team.

Prior to his arrival at UGF, he had been working for the Department of Juvenile Services and the Clark County School District in his hometown of Las Vegas, Nevada. Ron will be involved in all aspects of the program at UGF, including on-floor coaching, recruiting and scouting and coordinating the junior varsity program.

Seasons at UGF: 1st Season as Assistant Men's Basketball Coach

Cody Gillespie joins the men's basketball staff at the University of Great Falls for the 2007-08 season. Gillespie comes to UGF after four seasons of playing for Montana State University-Northern.

In his four seasons for the Lights, he was a vocal leader and a role player, with an emphasis on "old school" basketball. He graduated  from MSU-Northern in four years with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Technology, and minors in Small Business Management and Marketing. He is now a Team/Commercial salesman for Universal Athletic Service right here in Great Falls.

Cody will be involved in all aspects of the program here at UGF, including on-floor coaching, recruiting and scouting for the Argos.
