Argo Cross Country adds another female runner

GREAT FALLS, Mont., July 7, 2008 — University of Great Falls Cross-Country and Track coach Jim Brewer has announced the signing of Brandi Barber to an NAIA/Frontier Conference Letter of Intent for the upcoming 2008 season.

Barber will be joining the University of Great Falls cross-country and track team as a transfer from Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Missouri where she ran last year for the Vikings. Barber was originally from Great Falls, but attended Parkway High School in Bossier-City, Louisiana where she earned all region, all-city, and All-State honors in cross-country and track and was a two year team captain.

In the fall of Barber's senior year she finished 10th overall in the 5K at the state championship cross-country meet in Louisiana finishing in an impressive time of 20:03. Barber went on to earn additional All-State Honors in the spring of her senior year finishing 3rd at the state championships in the 3,200 meters with a time of 11:58. Last fall at Missouri Valley College, she earned Scholar Athlete honors in cross-country and also ran a personal record of 19:32 in the 5K.

At Parkway High School, Barber maintained a 3.8 GPA while balancing a busy schedule as an active member with Fellowship with Christian Athletes, the National Honor Society, Art Club President, and the manager of the wrestling team. Barber continued her involvement as a wrestling manager at Missouri Valley College and hopes to help the UGF wrestling team this winter as well.

Brandi plans to double major in Paralegal and Theology at the University of Great Falls.

“I am really looking forward to being a part of a close team that is passionate about running like I am," said Barber.

“We are very humbled and delighted to have Brandi transfer to our school. She has a lot of foot speed, with personal records of 2:18 in the 800 meters and 5:03 in the mile, but she also loves the longer distances. She is hoping to run a 1/2 marathon this spring. Her positive energy and her running versatility will be great additions to our team. We are excited to welcome her to the University of Great Falls community," said UGF Cross-Country and Track Coach Jim Brewer.

Gibson will be joining the University of Great Falls cross-country and track team as a transfer from Lane Community College in Eugene, Oregon where she ran two years for the Titans. Prior to attending Lane Community College, she attended Thurston High School in Springfield, Oregon where she earned all league honors in track and field and was a two year team captain.

Tiffany was voted Most Inspirational for two years and was team captain for a year at Lane Community College. She was also a key member of the 2005 NWAACC (North West Athletic Association Cross Country) championship team.

Some of her personal records include running the 5K in 19:25, the 1,500 meters in 5:03 and the 800 meters in 2:21. The Oregon transfer also had a personal record of 12:49 in the 3,000 meter steeple chase.

The coaches and the staff here in Great Falls have really made me feel welcome. That comfort and belief in me will be keys to my success," said Gibson.

“Tiffany has an extensive background and passion for the sport of running. After competing two years for Lane Community College, she continued to give back to the program by coaching there an additional two years. During that time she has also had the opportunity to work as a team/development member for runnerspace.com and has worked with the media at the Olympic Trials in Eugene this summer," said UGF Cross-Country and Track Coach Jim Brewer. "She will be a great addition to our program and our university!"

He has a great attitude and a lot of potential to continue improving his running in college," said UGF Cross-Country and Track Coach Jim Brewer.
