Biographical Information |
If you could pick a faculty member as your lifeline on Who Wants
to be a Millionaire, who would you choose? Curt Bobbitt, of course. That guy is a walking library of encyclopedias. But also maybe Cathy Day, who beat both Curt and me at Trivial Pursuit.
What would the theme song of your life be? King of the Road.
If you had to be on a desert island with one campus food what would it
be? I hope they deliver Howard's pizza to this island.
Why did you choose The University of Great Falls? I love Montana, and I have always loved Great Falls--unlike other cities in Montana, it has retained its distinct identity.
Dr. Parrett was born in Butte, Montana and grew up in Helena. He has played bluegrass and country music in bands from Alaska to Georgia and has recorded several CDs of original songs. He began writing fiction and criticism in 2001 and has published several short stories and a book called The Translunar Narrative in the Western Tradition (Ashgate Press, 2004).
His areas of expertise include French, German, English, and American literatures. The areas in which he has published academically include history, literature, and philosophy. He has also published a handful of short stories and teaches classes in creative writing. He has currently a novel under consideration, and is working on an academic study of theology and gambling.
In addition, Dr. Parrett is accomplished on several musical instruments and has put out 3 CDs of original compositions. His music is featured on several soundtracks for independent documentary films. He is a Kentucky Colonel commissioned by Governor Paul Patton, a member of the American Literature Association, a member of the Modern Language Association, and former President of the Jim Harrison Society.
