Biographical Information |
Daniel William McGuire grew up on the Jersey Shore, and attended Virginia Military Institute on an NROTC scholarship. He graduated with a degree in civil engineering in 1983, and entered the U.S. Marine Corps as a second lieutenant.
After tours overseas, he cleaned up the scene in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, before teaching at Officer Candidate School at Quantico, Virginia. While at Quantico, he met a lovely, liberal, Protestant, Democrat, Cowboy fan named Kristen West.
They fell in love, and got married in 1989.
Though she stubbornly clings to many vestiges of her girlhood, Daniel was her sponsor at the Easter Vigil in 1992 when she joined the Roman Catholic Church. Her catechetical experience in the RCIA convinced Daniel to pursue a masters in theology. (Who told you that no one prays the rosary anymore?!)
Dan retired from active duty as a Major in 2003 and, after a fun-filled cross country vacation, he began doctoral studies at Marquette University.
Fast forward to 2007: There are eight McGuire children, with ages ranging from high school on down. Dan is now a retired Marine, and recently completed a Ph.D. in theology at Marquette University in Milwaukee. He defended his dissertation on 16 April of 2007 and graduated in May.
Daniel and Kristen do give talks at parishes and conferences.
