The UGF Lady Argo Volleyball Team looks to improve on their historic 20 win season. This year’s team will be challenged as Coach Duda has scheduled 6 NAIA Top 25 teams for preseason competition. However, with a successful spring season and the addition of several nationally recruited athletes, the Argos are up to the challenge.
Outside Hitters: This year the Argo squad returns two dominant players in senior first team All-Conference and All Region Claudia Jacobs and junior first team All-Conference and All Region Brittany Prater. Both players have also received many Frontier Conference accolades. Their consistent hard work during spring play will continue to improve their and their teammates play. Also returning is Nicole Johnson from Armstrong, BC.
Key Newcomers: This will be the Argo’s deepest and most consistent position this year. Newcomers Lindsay Toone and Dano Blair along with red shirt Carlina Hapke will provide solid competition, excellent ball control, and powerful arm swings to an already talented core of outside hitters.
Middle Blockers: The Argos return several players from this position who have improved tremendously from their freshmen year. Sophomore Jodi Miller is a tremendous athlete who started last year and Sophomore Kim Wright is one of the hardest working athletes on the squad.
Key Newcomers: Three freshmen, Cali Buck, Sam Bull, and Kami Motta will all compete for time in the middle. Buck is a very quick and dynamic player who has a great sense of the game and will make an immediate impact. Bull’s 6’3 frame will make her an intimidating opponent and Motta’s leaping ability will allow her to compete with the best this season.
Right Side Hitters: Returning to the Argos this season is senior Jennifer Wright and junior Lesly Richter. Wright started on the right side last season and will compete with Richter who played in the middle a year ago. Both players are very experienced and mature individuals and will greatly contribute to the success of the team.
Key Newcomers: The Argos added height to the right side this year with the signing of Marissa Stanchfield and Cortney Thoren. Both players are excellent blockers and have tremendous power to put the ball away. This is another position where the Argos are very deep and talented.
Setters: Last year Jennifer Petersen finished second in the conference in assists per game and looks to improve on that record this season. Jen is a very experienced and savvy player that runs a very sophisticated and quick offense. Look for Petersen to lead the Argos to victory this season.
Key Newcomers: Brianne Goudey will transfers into the Argos from Santa Monica College where she was named to the first team all conference team. Bri will bring a wealth of experience and maturity in helping lead the Argo offense.
Defensive Specialists: The Argos return three very impressive defensive players this season. Sophomore Kari Schiller led the conference in digs per game at the libero position and is quickly becoming a dominant defensive player in the league. Charmayne Anderson is one of the teams best passers and has improved her defense significantly in the spring. Senior Rachel Escosia returns for one last season and has the skills necessary to make it her best.
Key Newcomers: Lora Weitzel joins the Argo squad this season and will quickly develop into a significant defensive presence. She has an excellent attitude and work ethic that will help her make a quick impact.
Letter to the Fans |
I would like to begin by thanking everyone who shared with us all of our success last season. It was a historic year for Argo volleyball as we finished second in the Frontier Conference and registered 20 wins on the year.
We also had several Argos receive recognition for their hard work. Outside hitters Claudia Jacobs and Brittany Prater were both voted to the All Region Team as well as being named 1 st Team All Conference. Freshmen Setter Jennifer Petersen and Great Falls native Kari Schiller were named to the All Conference Team and were also both voted to the All Freshmen Team.
