Argo basketball adds Idaho standout for the upcoming season
GREAT FALLS, Mont., June 16, 2008 — University of Great Falls men’s basketball coach Steve Silsby has announced the signing of Jay Tee Tarpley to an NAIA/Frontier Conference Letter of Intent for the 2008-2009 season.
The Dubois, Idaho native averaged 17.8 points and 12.4 rebounds per game this past season for the Clark County High School Bobcats. For his outstanding play in leading his team to a 17-7 overall record, Jay Tee was selected as a member of the First Team All-Rocky Mountain League in 2008.
The future Exercise Science major at the University of Great Falls is also an accomplished football and track athlete who turned down an NCAA Division I football offer at Idaho State to play basketball for the Argonauts.
“I really enjoyed my visits to campus,” said Tarpley. “The coaching staff made me feel right at home and I really feel like I’m joining a program on the rise. I’m also excited about the opportunity that UGF gives me to excel in the classroom. I am really looking forward to getting to work on the basketball court this season.”
"Jay Tee will be an excellent addition to our roster and should bolster our depth at the front court positions," said UGF men's basketball coach Steve Silsby. "What made Jay Tee so intriguing to us was his combination of size (6’5”, 225 lbs.), strength and athletic ability; for a big kid, he can really get up and down the floor which makes him a great fit for our up-tempo system. On top of that, he is an outstanding person and comes from a strong family that shares our values as a program and university."
Silsby continued, "Our staff is thrilled with his decision and we can't wait to get him on campus and integrated into the program. Jay Tee is going to develop into a special student athlete both on the court and in the classroom, over the next four years."
