UGF Cheer & Dance Team captures first place at first-ever COA Regional Competition; qualifies for Nationals

GREAT FALLS, MT (Tuesday, November 20, 2007) — The University of Great Falls Argo Cheer and Dance Team captured first place in the open co-ed level 6 division at the Cheerleaders of America (COA) Competition this past Sunday (November 18th) at the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse on the campus of Montana State University.

The UGF Cheer Team also qualified for the COA Ultimate Nationals in Florida in March. However, instead of traveling to Florida, the team will use this score to qualify for the USA (United Spirit Association) Nationals in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Cashman Center on February 10-11, 2008.

The UGF Cheer Team’s next competition will be held on Saturday, December 8th in Hamilton, Montana

“Words can’t express how proud I am of this team. They are very young and inexperienced in competition and represented the University of Great Falls with dignity and talent this Sunday. The fact that we qualified for nationals is simply icing on the cake,” said UGF coach Becky Acra.

This was UGF’s first-ever cheerleading competition.

UGF Announces Cheer and Dance Team’s new recruits and returnees

GREAT FALLS, MT (Monday, June 4, 2007) — The University of Great Falls’ cheer and dance coach, Becky Acra, has announced eleven of her new cheer and dance recruits that will begin cheering for the Argos and Lady Argos for the upcoming 2007-2008 season and she has also announced the returners from last year’s squad. Becky has nine recruits coming from Montana including five of those from both Great Falls High and C.M. Russell High in Great Falls.

Cortnee Doll joins the team from C.M. Russell High in Great Falls. She has been a competitive dancer for many years at Miss Linda’s School of Dance and was also a member of the Great Falls Explorer’s Professional CBA basketball team’s dance team, the “Sapphires” who are also coached by Becky Acra. She competed in cheerleading all four years of high school and plans to major in education while at UGF.

Brittney Kramarich is also a 2007 graduate of C.M.R. High School and was a member of the C.M.R. cheerleading team for four years and was a competitive figure skater for most of her childhood. She also plans on majoring in education at the University of Great Falls.

Hayley Wright comes to the UGF campus from Tucson, Arizona. Hayley is physically strong as well as an experienced cheerleader. Becky says “she will add a ton of experience to a very young team.”

Jaci Thayer will be joining us from Conrad, Montana where she cheered every year in high school. Like, Cortnee, she was also a member of the “Sapphires” professional dance team and her experience in performing in front of large crowds will help for this year’s first-ever competitive season for cheerleaders at UGF.

Tara Ferlic comes to Great Falls from Missoula, Montana and was a cheerleader for three years in high school. She has also been a competitive dancer and comes from experience program in Missoula.  Coach Acra says her “past competitive experience will be extremely helpful.”

Toni Hackett also comes from Missoula, Montana and is a friend of Tara’s. She has cheered for three years in high school and has some wonderful stunting experience. Toni say she is “so excited to be part of a true college cheerleading program.”

Lizzie Gold comes from Great Falls High School where she cheered for the Bison and Lady Bison for four years. She is a natural leader and is physically very strong which will help make the Argo Cheer and Dance team very competitive.

Codi Heikkila is another recruit from C.M.R. High School where he will be joining the group of male stunters on the team. Becky coached Codi in his junior year at C.M.R. where he was a stunt man for them. Becky says he is “very strong and very determined, he will be a great asset to this team!”

Kaelynn Olsen comes to us from the capital city of Helena, Montana where she brings her four year of experience with her to UGF. Kaelynn is a wonderful student and will surely excel in the classroom and athletically for the cheer team.

Raechelle Winkleman is a recruit from Seattle, Washington. Winkleman will bring some experience from a previous high school dance team and she has an excellent attitude.

Ronnie Unghire joins the UGF team from C.M.R. High School and she was a member of the nationally ranked Great Falls Storm All-Star Team that was coached by Becky Acra and Ronnie will continue to be a member of the Storm. She is one of the best all-around cheerleaders to come through Great Falls. She can do it all!

The returning member from last year’s squad include Ashley Finneman, Emily Pfeifer (who was on the women’s golf team), Lacey Steenson, Chris Richter, who was a member of the Argo men’s golf team and Henry Maxie, who ran for the inaugural UGF cross country team last year.
