UGF Men's Soccer Tops Rocky Mountain College In Season Opener

Billings, MT – The University of Great Falls men’s soccer team opened their 2009 season today by defeating the Rocky Mountain College Battlin’ Bears in a 2-0 decision at Wendy’s Field in Billings, MT.

“It’s an overused cliché but a win is a win,” said UGF head coach Tim Brooks.  “We didn’t play to our potential today but we were fortunate to get two goals while keeping them off the scoreboard to get the win.  I know we can play better soccer than we showed today and we’ve got a chance to prove that tomorrow (against Colorado Christian).”

Freshman Christian Johansen (Drammen, Norway/Ballulormen 9) made his presence felt right away notching the game’s first goal on an assist from sophomore Jimmy Sliwa (Wasilla, AK/Wasilla High School).  Sliwa added his second assist of the game with a crossing feed to sophomore David Jimenez (Long Beach, CA/Cabrillo High School) for an insurance goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Zach Johnson (Casper, WY/Kelly Walsh High School) recorded the shutout for the Argos.

The Argos return to action tomorrow with a neutral site contest against Colorado Christian College, played at Montana State University-Billings’ Yellowjacket Field.  Game time is slated for 1pm.
