Argo Track & Field Season Preview
2012 Indoor Season
The University of Great Falls Indoor Track & Field season officially starts this Friday when the team competes at the Montana State University Open in Bozeman, MT.
“I am extremely excited for the upcoming season,” says Coach Colwell. “Fall and winter training has been going well and this meet will be a good icebreaker for a lot of the athletes.”
The women’s team features sprints and jumps captain, junior Emily Busby (Syracuse, UT) competing in the high jump with newcomer Addie Gallagher, a heptathlete transfer from Clackamas Community College in Oregon City, OR. Returning senior Brandi Eloff (Ephrata, WA) leads the distance women onto the track. Montana natives Ashley Thoeny (Broadus, MT), the 3rd place javelin finisher at the 2011 Class B Montana State Championships, and Cera Lau (Kalispell, MT) will join the women throwers.
NAIA All-American Travis Price (Seward, Alaska), who already logged a national qualifying mark of 1:21.32 in the 600m two weeks ago, and fellow junior Andrew Hornung (Kent, WA) will lead the mid-distance group along with senior Jimmy Sliwa (Wasilla, AK), a starter for the 2011 NAIA national qualifying Argo Soccer team. The three runners seek to qualify as a National relay team in both the 4x800m and the Distance Medley Relay. Sophomore Andrew Walters (Darby, MT) leads the Argo men’s throwers into action. First-year UGF team members include decathlete Ryan Rosenau (Cashmere, WA), high jumper David Reinhardt (Battle Ground, WA) and long jumper Alec Bofinger (Broadview, MT). Donning the Argo colors for the first time as well and competing in the mile is Andrew Rivera, who recently joined the team from Victor Valley Community College in Victorville, CA.
“This is going to be big year for UGF Track & Field,” says Coach Colwell. “We have set some high standards and goals for the season and I am confident in our athletes’ abilities and determination in achieving them.”
The Argos will compete in four indoor meets, including the Mountain State Games at Idaho State University on February 3-4, leading up to NAIA National Championships March 1-3 in Geneva, Ohio.
